THE MILLION DOLLAR HOMEPAGE
Now only on e-Bay
A 21-year old student, Alex Tew, sells advertising pixels for 1 USD per pixel. Reason? To earn some decent money. The result: he is a millionaire now. Time needed? Only five months. How does it look? See for yourself.
There are still around 1,000 pixels available. Clever as he apparently is, these can now be bought on e-Bay only. Unfortunately, lawyers only sell hours, no pixels!

THE NEW PR/WIKI
LegalProblems
Business blogging faces legal challenges. The LegalProblems part of new PR/wiki deals with blogging policies, what employers should know about blogging, legal protection for bloggers, case studies and so on.
Especially the topics concerning how to blog without losing your job are interesting. Would you allow your employees to blog about your business? How dangerous is employee blogging? Are you afraid of company secrets being revealed?
Kind regards,

The Art of Managing People by Asking Questions
Frank D. Kanu (President of Genius One) wrote this masterpiece of 204 pages. In the fifth century B.C. the Greek philosopher Socrates perfected a method of teaching in which he would ask disarmingly simple questions that actually forced people to admit what they didn’t know.
As you read this book, you’ll find a number of questions that follow the Socratic tradition. The reason? Today’s managers need more than the predefined answers we might think are correct, but which seldom fit the problem at …

MY NETWORKING MISSION FOR 2006
Curacao is unstoppable
My mission: to combine the global knowledge, skills and experiences of the most dedicated (networking) professionals and to make it accessible to and useful for the business community on Curacao.
Vision: the world is changing dramatically. Globalization is no longer about large companies operating on a global scale, but about small(er) companies (and even individuals) doing the same but at a low (lower) cost basis. This is the ultimate entrepreneurial challenge and those companies face all kinds of (cultural and other) barriers. How, when and where should Curacao professionals step forward?
Branding: is about delivering value. Curacao …

SHOULD LAWYERS BE HAPPY PERSONS?
Are happy lawyers better lawyers?
I’m not addressing the issue of income, although I assume many choose to become a lawyer because of the money (and prestige) involved. Fact is that lawyers have one of the highest rates of depression and burn-out among the professional careers.
The question is whether ‘happy lawyers’ are better lawyers? And if so, why do so many ‘unhappy lawyers’ still have lots of clients? Is it necessary that lawyers find meaning in their work? Do lawyers often knowingly act unjustly and does that influence their (lack of) happiness?
What’s the role of clients in this …

REGULATORY ASPECTS OF A FINCO AND GROUPFINCO UNDER THE LAWS OF THE NETHERLANDS ANTILLES
Several exemptions available
In the Netherlands Antilles National Decree of 1995 constituting general requirements pursuant to article 1 (3) of the National Ordinance on the supervision of banking and credit institutions 1994, Groupfinco’s (‘concernfinancieringsmaatschappijen’) have been exempted from the application of the Ordinance.
The Decree defines “Groupfinco’s” as Credit Institutions, which (i) form part of a “Group”, (ii) fund themselves from, and apply their funds in, foreign countries and (iii) have obtained a general foreign exchange exemption. A Credit Institution which meets said requirements (ii) and (iii), but which does not form part of a Group, is referred to as …

THE MAKING OF THIS WEBLOG
Steve Purkiss is the man behind the design and the software
I am just an attorney. With almost no experience in web building, I contacted my Toronto-based friend Steve Purkiss a couple of months ago. I told him about my desire to have my own legal blog.
He advised WordPress, with easy page editing and weblogging facilities. And I fully agree: the software is easy to handle. Among other sites, Steve created the LinuxVAR website (the UK’s largest distributor of commercial Linux products).
Steve is “Mr. Open Source”. Steve likes helping people make the …

CROSS-BORDER LEGAL MERGERS IN EUROPE
Freedom of such mergers confirmed According to a press release of the European Commission the general refusal in Germany to register a legal merger between companies in the commercial register where one is established in another member state is contrary to community law.
This difference in treatment between companies, according to whether the merger is internal or cross-border in nature, constitutes a restriction on freedom of establishment that cannot be justified on imperative grounds in the public interest.
A merger contract concluded in 2002 between SEVIC Systems AG, established in Germany, and Security Vision Concept SA, established in Luxembourg, …

INVESTMENT COMPANY REGULATIONS IN THE NETHERLANDS ANTILLES
Holding companies are not investing
An investment company is a company that raises or has obtained pecuniary means or other property to be used for collective investment with the objective of allowing the participants to benefit of the revenues of the investments.
The Netherlands Antilles National Ordinance Supervision of Investment Institutions and Administrators (‘Landsverordening Toezicht Beleggingsinstellingen en Administrateurs’) and the policy guidelines based thereon do not make entirely clear what will be regarded as an “investment”.
The explanatory memorandum to the Ordinance explains that certain activities do not tend to be referred to as “investment”, such as holding companies. Administrators …

SCANNED EVIDENCE UNDER THE LAWS OF THE NETHERLANDS ANTILLES AND ARUBA
Electronic files will not be disregarded as evidence
A Netherlands Antilles or Aruban court may base its decision on facts only. If something is not disputed by the parties it is such a fact, even if it does not correspond with reality. For example, if both parties state that they were involved in a fight in Amsterdam, the court will assume the correctness thereof, although both parties know that the fight was actually in Rotterdam. Furthermore, facts can be proven in the course of the proceedings, e.g., by showing the court an official extract of a notarial deed. The court …
