The legal regulations in connection with the law providing for financial supervision are materially identical in Curaçao and Sint Maarten. For convenience sake we will mainly refer to Curaçao below.
The search for a prospectus requirement in the law on supervision will be in vain. After 8 years of practicing law for two different law firms in Amsterdam (one small, one large firm), I moved to Curaçao in October 1997. Op dit moment worden Statenleden zelf, dus als persoon gekozen; het is ‘hun’ zetel. Weliswaar spelen politieke partijen in het stelsel ook een rol, maar een statenzetel is niet van een politieke partij. Tijd voor een onderhoudsbeurt
Regeren doen we zelf. Niet echt zelf natuurlijk, maar via de mensen die wij als onze vertegenwoordigers hebben gekozen. De macht is aan het volk. Dat noemen we dan democratie. De minst slechte van alle staatsvormen, wordt wel gezegd.
Hoewel er verschillen zijn tussen de diverse democratisch georganiseerde landen, geldt grofweg als uitgangspunt dat de meerderheid beslissende invloed heeft. Dat geldt wanneer (periodiek) wordt gekozen voor de samenstelling van de Staten, ook wel het parlement genoemd (de volksvertegenwoordiging).
